Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide expert scientific and technical advice and support to ensure the safe and effective use of ionising radiation in diagnostic radiology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert scientific and technical advice to NHS Trusts and other organisations on radiation protection and medical physics matters.
  • Design, maintain and manage a comprehensive independent commissioning, quality assurance and calibration programme for all ionising radiation equipment.
  • Lead the technical staff of the Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Protection Service.
  • Support the research, optimisation and development of radiological techniques to improve patient management and safety.
  • Work closely with the Head of Radiology Physics to manage the activities of the Group and plan services.
  • Proactively participate in workforce development, including selection, recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Provide leadership in specific areas of the group's work, planning group strategy and implementing new ways of working.
  • Undertake critical examinations, commissioning tests and quality control measurements on x-ray equipment to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Provide expert scientific and technical advice on radiation protection and medical physics matters to specified Trusts, private hospitals and other organisations.
  • Undertake research and development work in Radiology Physics to improve the service and optimise radiological techniques.
  • Regularly deliver training to staff and students on radiation protection and medical physics matters.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a strong background in clinical laboratory science, radiation protection and medical physics, with excellent communication and leadership skills. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and have a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
