About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled EMC/EMI Systems Engineer to join our team at Babcock International Group. As a key member of our electrical engineering group, you will play a critical role in supporting multiple design and build projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electromagnetic effects analysis, including Tempest, Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Interference (EMC/EMI), Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), electrostatic discharge (ESD), and lightning review.
  • Deliver valued oversight across all phases of the design lifecycle, ensuring compliance with EMC/EMI requirements.
  • Develop and implement design guidelines, models, and analyses for components, subsystems, and systems using Tempest and EMI principles.
  • Design ground systems, chassis, and harness shielding, EMI filters, and select and lay out interface circuitry for achieving EMC and Tempest.
  • Prepare and review Tempest and EMC/EMI test procedures, test reports, technical analyses, control plans, and participate in cross-discipline design reviews for EMC.

Requirements

  • EMC/EMI experience and working knowledge of lab test equipment such as spectrum analysers, generators, amplifiers, and measurement antennas.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully allocate, tailor, and flow down system-level EMC/EMI requirements into lower-level requirements.
  • Extensive design experience with EMI filters, circuit layout, and analysis for EMC/EMI, shielding, lightning protection, cable, and harnessing design.
  • Working knowledge and experience in modelling and simulation of EMC/EMI using commercially available software.
  • High level of developed knowledge in the specialist subject area, with a strong aptitude for learning new and exciting innovations.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level, or HNC/HND equivalent, coupled with significant experience in the relevant engineering discipline.
  • Preferrable but not essential a master's degree in electrical engineering, with a specialty in Electromagnetics, RF, or analogue circuitry.
  • Ideally, you will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold or working towards Chartered or Incorporated status or you will have significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council at CEng level.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
