Assistant Shop Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Shop Manager to join our team at Big Lots Stores Inc. As a key member of our store leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and directing various aspects of the merchandising process, including freight processing, truck unload, stocking, and inventory control.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Merchandising and Inventory Management: Lead and direct activities related to truck unload, freight flow, backroom organization, ticketing merchandise, stocking shelves, and reconciliation of inventory transactions according to operational and merchandising standards.
  2. Team Leadership: Lead and supervise the freight team, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  3. Store Appearance: Ensure that the appearance of the store's interior and exterior are maintained to standards, primarily regarding merchandise presentation and signage.
  4. Price Changes and Signage: Ensure that price changes and signage are correctly reflected on the sales floor.
  5. Associate Management: Participate in the interviewing, selection, hiring, and training of associates in collaboration with store leadership. May complete performance evaluations as directed.
  6. Disciplinary Action: Administer appropriate disciplinary action to associates, including recommendations for termination, in partnership with the store leadership and in accordance with company guidelines.
  7. Store Scheduling and Payroll: Assist with store scheduling and payroll processes on a daily and weekly basis.
  8. Manager on Duty: Serve in the Manager on Duty role as needed, including opening and closing the store. When serving in this role, provide leadership and direction to floor associates and ensure that store, merchandising, and customer service standards are continuously met.
Requirements:
  1. Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.
  2. Experience: Minimum three years retail management experience preferred.
  3. Availability: Availability to work a variable schedule of at least 40 to 45 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays required.
  4. Travel: Ability to travel between stores with some overnight stays required.
  5. Skills: Basic English literacy, math, and PC skills required.
