Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Stericycle Full time

About Us:

Stericycle is a leading provider of compliance-based solutions that protect people and brands, promote health and well-being, and safeguard the environment. With over 30 years of experience, we have grown from a small start-up in medical waste management into a leader across a range of increasingly complex and highly regulated arenas.

We serve healthcare organizations and commercial businesses of every size, helping them solve complex challenges by safely managing materials that could otherwise spread disease, contaminate the environment, or compromise one's identity. Our mission is to protect health and well-being in a safe, responsible, and sustainable way.

Position Purpose:

This role is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day maintenance activities within the plant are carried out effectively, minimizing downtime through preventive and reactive maintenance procedures. The goal is to optimize plant availability by implementing sustained programs of maintenance, adhering to company safety and operational procedures, and complying with HSE legislation and WID regulations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance at the plant, prioritizing works in collaboration with the Shift Supervisor or Plant Manager. Additionally, they will assist the manager in operating the planned maintenance system, including record-keeping either electronically or through other means.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To provide first-line breakdown/defect repairs and support to Shift Supervisors, acting promptly to minimize plant downtime.
  2. Closely monitor the safe operation of the plant and report any engineering concerns to the Supervisor or Manager.
  3. Inspect, coordinate, and maintain plant maintenance documentation in conjunction with the Plant Manager.
  4. Prepare and coordinate inspection and effect repairs as required for statutory and non-statutory testing actions on plant and equipment in collaboration with the manager.
  5. Review and update site maintenance procedures as necessary.
  6. Ensure pending unsafe conditions are noted and reported to the Plant Manager.
  7. Maintain the workshop area and spares inventory to ensure minimal downtime.
  8. Provide the Plant Manager with updated stock lists as needed for audit purposes.
  9. Participate in out-of-hours engineering support, providing frontline maintenance support both communicably and physically when required.
  10. Liaise with the Plant Manager on improvement initiatives for company equipment.
  11. Complete maintenance logs in line with the company BMS System.
  12. Act as a backup for the Shift Supervisor in their absence.

Requirements:

A formal qualification in mechanical engineering (e.g., Hydraulics maintenance/fault finding) and working knowledge of steam systems on a waste plant are essential. Proficiency in welding (MMA/MIG) is also required.
