To excel in this role, you must have a strong background in real-time embedded software design and development in C/C++. Experience with Linux and RTOS, especially FreeRTOS, is essential.

In addition to software expertise, you should have a solid understanding of FPGA development, VHDL, or Verilog, with experience in Xilinx devices. High-speed communication protocol implementation and performance optimization are critical skills.

The ideal candidate will also have experience working with networking protocols, Ethernet, and IP protocols, as well as optical transceivers.

A minimum of two years of commercial experience is required, with a strong portfolio of projects that demonstrate your expertise.

Additional desirable skills include Python development, Linux systems development, and experience with Satcom protocols and standards.

As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining embedded software and FPGA designs for optical satellite communications and real-time control of our ground station.

Your primary focus will be on implementing high-performance communication and control systems, with an initial emphasis on optical communications protocols.

You will be expected to take full ownership of a design and see it through to integration on the ground station.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Designing and developing embedded software and FPGA designs for optical satellite communications and real-time control of our ground station.
  • Collaborating with the software team to develop and maintain software and FPGA designs.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in free-space optical comms protocols and proposing updates to designs.
  • Supporting the assembly, integration, and testing of the ground station.
  • Participating in in-field full system tests and troubleshooting.
