Job Title: Finance Officer

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are seeking a highly skilled Finance Officer to join our team at our Service Headquarters in Exeter.

This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) for a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a competitive salary of £29,334 - £29,777 (gross per annum pro rata), equating to £14,775.14 - £15,095.68 (gross) per annum for 20 hours per week.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is the largest non-metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service in England, providing prevention, protection, and response services across the counties of Devon and Somerset.

About the Role:

As our Finance Officer, you will be responsible for processing and reconciling financial transactions and recharges for the Authority, and providing financial advice to acceptable professional standards.

You will assist in the provision of accountancy services and financial management processes and policies within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monthly reconciliations of payroll transactions, P Card transactions, and the Authority's Pension Schemes, posting payroll corrections and deductions to the Integra system.
  • Providing advice and assisting with the training and support of users of the Authority's financial systems as deputy system administrator.
  • Completing the monthly bank reconciliation, ensuring the bank balance matches the system balances.
  • Administering P Card transactions and providing help and advice to users.
  • Collating and processing internal recharges as appropriate.
  • Identifying posting errors and performing correcting journals.
  • Completing government returns for VAT, CIS, and attending PS Tax seminars in order to inform the Authority.
  • Monitoring the mailboxes for the Integra Helpdesk and Finance Department to assist with requests.
  • Administering Aged Debt and distributing reminders, statements as necessary. To provide a monthly report to the Head of Finance.
  • Undertaking other tasks as requested by the Line Manager and any other duties associated with the support function of the department.
  • Maintaining security and confidentiality of information, whether computer-based or otherwise, in line with legislation, especially the Data Protection Act and Service policies.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge, by networking, attending training courses, benchmarking performance against other Fire Services, and reviewing professional qualifications.
