Test Development Specialist

ROLE SUMMARY
At Optos, we are seeking a highly skilled Test Development Engineer with expertise in delivering test solutions for complex systems, particularly within the medical or automotive industries. This role requires a meticulous individual who can design, develop, and implement robust tests, working closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure the reliability, quality, and compliance of our products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and document comprehensive test strategies to validate the performance, functionality, safety, and reliability of products, collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand product specifications and requirements.
- Design and implement custom automation-based test solutions, coordinating test development projects via internal and external resources.
- Support FMEA activities to identify potential failure modes, their causes, and effects on product performance and reliability, utilising FMEA outputs to prioritise testing efforts and design appropriate test methodologies.
- Support investigations into failures encountered during testing, collaborate with engineering teams to implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure that testing processes comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality management systems, e.g., ISO, IATF, and participate in audits and reviews to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Implement configuration management practices to control changes to test systems, maintaining accurate documentation of test configurations and versions to support reproducibility and traceability.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and optimisation within the test development lifecycle, implementing best practices and methodologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of testing processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A rich experience in test development, preferably in the medical device or automotive industry, incorporating a mix of optics, electronics, software, firmware, laser systems, and mechanical elements.
- Knowledge of configuration management tools and practices to ensure the consistency and integrity of test environments.
- Software skills/competencies.
MANDATORY SKILLS
- Continuous Test, Integration, Development, Tooling, and Processes.
- 10 years plus developing software automation tests on Windows and Linux.
- Autonomation Test System design, implementation, and deployment.
- Extensive hands-on experience programming in Python.
DESIRED SKILLS
- PowerShell, C#, C++, .NET.
- Experience of test tools, we use Squish, PyWinAuto, Appium, WinApp driver.
- Experience of fast-paced Lean/Agile project delivery.
- Experience of delivering software for medical devices.
OPTIONAL SKILLS
