London, Greater London, United Kingdom Liberty Charge Ltd. Full time

About Us

At Liberty Charge Ltd., we're on a mission to create the UK's most reliable electric vehicle charging network that doesn't cost the earth and leaves no one behind. We work closely with local authorities and businesses to deliver high-quality charging networks at pace, at scale, and at zero cost.

We offer all the advantages of being a scale-up business, but with the added security and long-term backing from well-known parents - Liberty Global (who also own our delivery partner, Virgin Media O2) and Zouk Capital (who manage the Government's Charging Investment Infrastructure Fund).

You'll be joining this exciting journey at the start of our scale-up phase, and work with us to hit ambitious targets. As our Head of UX, you'll become part of a passionate and supportive team in a fast-paced, dynamic, and result-driven environment.

About the Role

We're seeking a creative and experienced Head of UX/UI to lead our user experience and interface design efforts as we move from a predominantly SaaS model to an in-house, fully owned, and managed technology ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), this role will be responsible for defining and implementing a user-centric design strategy, creating intuitive and visually compelling interfaces, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional user experiences across our products and platforms.

With a focus on user-centered development and design, you'll collaborate closely with the CTO, Head of Engineering, and wider business to ensure that we're developing and implementing initiatives and innovations that put our customers first while delivering frictionless, seamless, and engaging user experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a comprehensive UX/UI design strategy, incorporating user research, industry best practices, and business goals to drive the evolution of our product user experiences.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web and mobile applications, incorporating user-centered design principles, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders to understand user needs, define product requirements, and translate them into intuitive and visually appealing design solutions.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to gather insights and validate design decisions, iteratively refining and improving our products based on user feedback and behavior.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of design systems, pattern libraries, and style guides to ensure consistency and scalability across our products and platforms.
  • Stay informed about emerging design trends, technologies, and best practices, and advocate for their adoption to enhance our design capabilities and deliver innovative user experiences.
  • Define and implement design processes and methodologies, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality in all aspects of the design lifecycle, from ideation to implementation.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, contractors, and partners as needed to augment design resources and capabilities, ensuring alignment with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers, providing guidance, support, and feedback to foster a collaborative and high-performing design culture.

About You

We're building a culture that attracts and retains top talent. We're a dedicated and high-performing team accustomed to working at pace in an ever-evolving industry. We're looking for people who share our passion for cutting carbon emissions and providing cleaner air for all. The successful candidate will have the following attributes and skills:

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of projects, including web and mobile applications.
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, design thinking methodologies, and usability best practices, with a focus on delivering intuitive and delightful user experiences.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar, with the ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively articulate design concepts, present ideas, and advocate for user needs to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, collaborating closely with product management and engineering teams to deliver iterative design solutions.
  • Familiarity with front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design implementation, with the ability to collaborate with developers to ensure design feasibility and fidelity.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing design teams, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop talent to achieve business objectives.
  • Passion for sustainability, clean energy, and environmental stewardship, with a desire to contribute to positive social and environmental impact through design innovation.

Additional Knowledge (Desirable):

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices, with the ability to design inclusive and accessible interfaces for users with diverse needs and abilities.
  • Understanding of internationalization and localization principles, with experience designing multilingual and culturally sensitive user experiences for global audiences.
  • Proficiency in user research methodologies, such as interviews, surveys, and persona development, to gain insights into user behaviors, motivations, and pain points.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a regulated industry, such as energy, transportation, or utilities, with an understanding of industry-specific challenges and opportunities.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance design culture focused on innovation, excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Strong understanding of design systems, component libraries, and design workflows, with the ability to establish and maintain standards and processes to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and iterate on design solutions based on user feedback and behavior.
  • Excellent visual and interaction design skills, with a keen eye for detail, typography, layout, and color, and the ability to create visually compelling and intuitive user interfaces.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, navigate ambiguity, and drive results.
