Job Description:

We are seeking a highly qualified Senior Lecturer in Journalism with expertise in digital journalism, research, and teaching. The successful candidate will have a strong professional background and a PhD, with publications in areas like digital, investigative, political, or citizen journalism.

This role involves teaching practice and research expertise in one of the following areas:
  • digital journalism
  • investigative journalism
  • political journalism
  • citizen journalism

The salary for this position starts at £48,327 and rises to £55,998.

About the Role:
As a Senior Lecturer in Journalism, you will be responsible for teaching students about digital journalism, its practices, and its challenges. You will also contribute to the development of our journalism program by conducting research, publishing scholarly articles, and participating in academic events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in digital journalism, including theory, practice, and ethics.
  • Conduct research in digital journalism, focusing on areas such as investigative journalism, political journalism, and citizen journalism.
  • Develop and maintain a strong publication record, including articles in reputable journals and books.
  • Promote the University of Sussex's journalism program through outreach activities, academic events, and media engagement.

Requirements:
  • A PhD in Journalism or a related field is required.
  • A strong track record of teaching and research experience in digital journalism, investigative journalism, political journalism, or citizen journalism.
  • Prior experience in academic publishing, preferably in reputable journals and books.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners.
