Due to Vital Energi Utilities Ltd's continuous growth and expansion in the energy sector, we are seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Specialist based at our London office to work on a wide range of projects.

About the Role

This role involves leading conceptual to detailed designs for distributed energy schemes, energy centres, district heating networks, and other related projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed designs, collaborating with project teams, and providing technical assistance during site visits.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of design principles, including heating and cooling distribution systems, boiler/CHP/heat pump systems, and current Building Regulations (particularly Approved Documents G, L & J) and Heat Network Code of Practice (2020).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of complex mechanical systems, including distributed energy schemes, energy centres, and district heating networks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project designs and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of design specifications, industry codes, and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams during site visits and project implementations.
  • Liaise with external designers, customers, and internal project teams to ensure seamless project execution.
What You Will Need

The successful candidate will ideally hold a degree in a relevant field and have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a similar design or design-build environment. They should possess:

  • A sound understanding of mechanical system design principles, including heating and cooling distribution, boiler/CHP/heat pump systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A strong understanding of current Building Regulations and industry codes.
  • An awareness of cost implications within design and ability to minimize design issues.

We offer a competitive salary of £65,000 - £85,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a range of benefits, including a contributory company pension scheme, non-contributory death-in-service insurance, and flexible working hours patterns.
