Permanent Activity Instructor

YHA Edale Activity Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Permanent Activity Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our activity team, you will be responsible for delivering a wide range of bespoke activity sessions to differing client groups, balancing the need for safety with creating optimal learning outcomes through genuinely challenging and adventurous experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality activity sessions to client groups, ensuring a positive experience for all participants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of activity programmes, ensuring alignment with YHA's strategy and values.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to colleagues, including training and induction of new staff.
  • Lead in the organisation of the trainee/volunteer instructor programme, ensuring effective development and supervision of activity staff.
  • Conduct recorded supervision of activity staff, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Devising and delivering high-quality activity programmes, setting examples for other instructors to follow.
  • Assist the Activity Manager in establishing and maintaining the highest standards of activity provision, informing internal training and development, and wider activity provision by external partners.
  • Maintain practices and procedures stipulated by external bodies, such as AALS and LOtC, advising YHA on a wider basis.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications, including at least 3 of the following: Rock Climbing Instructor, Paddle sport Leader, Level 1 Local Cave Leader, Mountain Leader, or Hill & Moorland Leader.
  • Full driving license held for at least two years.
  • Technical knowledge of activity safety equipment, enabling appropriate purchasing, inspection, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others, with experience of working directly with teams of young people.
  • Decision-making skills and the ability to stay calm in difficult situations.
  • Strong, clear communication skills, with the ability to establish a rapport with a wide range of people.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with excellent customer service skills.
