Job Title: Inspector of Seamarks

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Inspector of Seamarks to join our Navigation Department at The Corporation of Trinity House.

About the Role

The Inspector of Seamarks will be responsible for leading the requirements for the superintendence and management of Aids to Navigation around our coasts and in our ports. This will involve inspecting over eleven thousand Aids to Navigation per year across England and Wales, as well as conducting audits of Harbour Authorities to ensure compliance with guidelines provided by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) and the Port Marine Safety Code.

The role will also involve planning and executing the annual inspection programme for local Aids to Navigation, liaising with Trinity House Operations Centre, Local Harbour Authorities and other Aid to Navigation providers as appropriate. Additionally, the Inspector of Seamarks will be responsible for carrying out a full analysis of the results of the inspections and audits, producing statistical reports for both internal and external promulgation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the requirements for the superintendence and management of Aids to Navigation around our coasts and in our ports
  • Inspect over eleven thousand Aids to Navigation per year across England and Wales
  • Conduct audits of Harbour Authorities to ensure compliance with guidelines provided by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) and the Port Marine Safety Code
  • Plan and execute the annual inspection programme for local Aids to Navigation
  • Carry out a full analysis of the results of the inspections and audits, producing statistical reports for both internal and external promulgation
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a valid ENG1 and Personal Survival Techniques certificate or equivalent offshore certification. A Master Mariner (or RN equivalent) with an excellent knowledge of our coast, command experience, and a good knowledge of the IALA Maritime Buoyage System are also essential. Strong IT, communication, and report writing skills are also required. Knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code and marine licencing would be advantageous but is not essential.

We offer a competitive salary of £60,998.00 per annum, a company car, and a clean UK driving licence is essential. The role involves substantial lone working and will comprise of extensive travel away from home, typically four days a week.
