The role of a Mental Health Consultant in our team is to provide expert advice and guidance for individuals with complex mental state and risk presentation. As a consultant, you will have the opportunity to work with a full multidisciplinary team, including mental health practitioners, occupational therapists, Support Time and Recovery workers, and a psychology team, supported by administration and a service manager.

We offer a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people living in South-East London and to people in prison across England. Our services include community health care, such as district nursing and speech and language therapy, care for people with learning disabilities and mental health, including psychiatry, nursing, and therapies.

Job Summary

This post-holder will have his or her base at HMP Guys Marsh and HMP Erlestoke, where the mental health service comprises a full multidisciplinary team. The primary duties of the post holder will include consultant leadership for the Mental Health In-reach Team at the prisons. You will be eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register in Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry.

Responsibilities
  • Providing expert advice and guidance for individuals with complex mental state and risk presentation
  • Liaising with services outside the prison to arrange CPAs, aftercare plans, or transfers to hospital
  • Involved in quality improvement initiatives, to be agreed with multidisciplinary colleagues and the service managers

The salary for this role is approximately £85,000 - £105,000 per annum, depending on experience.
