About the Role

Imperial College is seeking a skilled Legacy Officer to join their Regular Giving and Legacy Giving team. This is a diverse role with opportunities for development and learning in a higher education setting, ideal for those with experience in the charity sector looking to expand their knowledge.

The Legacy Giving programme aims to inspire philanthropic support from alumni and friends by encouraging them to include a gift in their will to the university, alongside supporting Imperial in their lifetime. The programme raises funds for various projects across the university, including student support and scholarships, research, and areas of greatest need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project manage all legacy activity to recruit and steward legacy donors through face-to-face fundraising, telephone, direct mail, and events.
  • Manage legacy administration, working with academics to ensure gifts are allocated to the appropriate area within the university.
  • Provide support and training to Advancement staff in discussing legacy giving and championing this across the university.
  • Partner with the Head of Regular Giving and Legacy Giving to manage a large portfolio of legacy supporters and act as the first point of contact for all legacy queries.
  • Steward new and existing legacy pledgers, ensuring they remain engaged with the university and continue supporting Imperial philanthropically during their lifetime.
  • Manage the production of legacy materials and appeals, implementing new supporter journeys into legacy strategy and planning in collaboration with Regular Giving Officers to encourage lifetime giving.
  • Partner closely with the Legal team to manage the provision of legacy wording to prospective donors and oversee all legacy administration, including managing the relationship with Imperial's legacy consultant.
Requirements
  • Education to degree level or demonstration of equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience of working in or knowledge of legacy fundraising.
  • Experience of building relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues up to a senior level, alumni, and donors.
  • Experience of working with databases and/or CRM systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a confident, helpful, and professional telephone manner.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, with strong project management skills and a methodical and organized approach.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing workload and keeping to deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel within and outside of the UK for specific events.
  • A flexible approach to working, able to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate alumni and related university events.
