We are seeking a highly skilled Senior or Principal Engineer to join our Surface Water Management team in the UK, specialising in water-based projects with a strong drainage design background and expertise in hydraulic modelling and 3D modelling. This role involves collaboration with teams across all our UK offices to liaise with clients and lead project delivery.

The ideal candidate will work closely with the Surface Water Management Discipline Lead to enhance the team's work, contributing to business development and leading technical input on assigned projects. A key responsibility is performing complex technical activities while developing long-term client relationships and securing new work.

As part of this role, you will manage medium-sized projects or several small projects with complex features, ensuring full understanding of project scope and documenting additional works beyond the contracted scope for Client approval.

You will use your initiative and technical skills to support the wider project team through safe, efficient, and effective delivery of tasks to deadlines, ensuring the project remains within budget and meets agreed standards. This position requires minimal supervision, so you will be expected to plan your own work and time to meet given objectives.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Leading technical input as required on assigned projects, ensuring high levels of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
  2. Ensuring technical quality of own and team's work in accordance with good engineering practice, relevant standards, Codes of Practice, current design methods, and Health & Safety legislation.
  3. Preparing feasibility studies, designs, design calculations, tender documentation, scheme evaluations, design statements, and other reports as identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects.
  4. Checking work, including third-party design proposals, as identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects.
  5. Carrying out other duties identified in the Project Quality Plan on assigned projects.
  6. Supervising technical work of staff as required by the Department Manager.
  7. Providing a good understanding of all relevant standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Legislation, and current design methods, and providing general technical support to own discipline team members.
  8. Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of standard specifications as required.
  9. Engaging in client and third-party liaison successfully, leading to enhanced reputation and repeat work.
  10. Assisting with the promotion of the company's capabilities to current and prospective clients.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years' experience of water-based projects.
  • A solid understanding of engineering gained from working on both construction sites and design offices.
  • Previous experience of delivering major civils projects.

Key Skills:

  • Design of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and conventional pipe networks.
  • Hydraulic modelling using industry-recognised software (e.g., MicroDrainage).
  • Drainage network 3D Modelling.
  • Flood Risk Assessment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
