About the Role:

AWE is seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Safety Specialist to join our team in a 12-month placement. As a key member of our Nuclear Safety assessment area, you will work closely with our experts to assess the risk and consequences of design, engineering, and operational failures.

This is a unique opportunity to work across the whole project lifecycle, from design to decommissioning, and to develop your skills in major hazard assessment and safety case development.

You will be responsible for preparing detailed reports to argue and justify the tolerability of nuclear, radiological, environmental, and conventional hazards, while liaising with a diverse group of people at various levels within the company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop skills in major hazard assessment and support the analysis and assessment of nuclear, radiological, chemical, explosives, and other major hazards.
  • Gain experience in the development of safety assessments and justifications in line with relevant legislation, industry standards, and AWE's policies and procedures.
  • Continuously develop an understanding of current health and safety legislation, the ONR licensing regime, and the fundamental application of the ALARP principle.
  • Contribute to the production and review of safety assessments and justifications.
