Job Title: PSV Chargehand

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled PSV Chargehand to join our busy team in Stevenage, providing essential maintenance and repairs for our fleet of buses.


About the Role: As a PSV Chargehand, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs and diagnostics on vehicles, standing in for the Workshop Controller/Foreman when needed, and assisting with training and development of apprentices. You will also be required to carry out quality checks, assist technicians with problem repairs, and maintain a clean and tidy work area.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Carry out repairs and diagnostics on vehicles as required.
  • Stand in for Workshop Controller/Foreman when not available.
  • Carry out quality checks of technicians' work to maintain good standard repairs.
  • Assist with training and development of apprentices.
  • Assist technicians with problem repairs and provide technical advice where necessary.
  • Carry out vehicle inspections and repairs to VOSA standards and in line with Company procedures.
  • Demonstrate good diagnosis skills.
  • Comply with Depot specific health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed correctly and handed in on time.


Requirements: We are looking for a candidate with NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 2/3, IRTEC Certified preferred but not essential. You must be fully conversant with the safe operation of workshop equipment and in the possession of, or capable of obtaining, a full PCV licence. Good communication and organisational skills are also essential.
