About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Anaesthetics to join our team at Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic services to patients across a range of medical and surgical specialties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide anaesthetic services to patients in adults' and children's accident and emergency services, intensive care, women's and children's, and a range of medical and surgical specialties.
  • Supervise and train SAS Doctors and Doctors in Training.
  • Adhere to and promote Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines, and maintain the Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mandatory training policy and the Data Protection Act 1998.
Requirements
  • Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to practice.
  • FRCA (UK or Ireland) or equivalent.
  • Inclusion on Specialist Register/admission within six months of interview date.
  • Certificate of Medical Education.
  • A higher qualification, eg. MD, PhD.
  • European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia.
  • Advanced training in Regional Anaesthesia.
Desirable Skills and Qualities
  • Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and their relatives, and with colleagues in all disciplines.
  • Ability to lead the development of services and promote best practice amongst colleagues.
  • Proficient in the use of Information Technology.
  • Portfolio evidencing a range of nerve blocks.
  • Evidence of the development of leadership within the work environment.
  • Attendance at courses in teaching, appraisal, and mentorship.
  • Proven interest in at least one area of research.
