Job Title: CNC Machine Shop Team Leader

At New Appointments Group, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Machine Shop Team Leader to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our manufacturing operations, you will be responsible for leading a team of CNC setters and operators to manufacture small batch, special, and prototype items.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Lead by example and provide guidance to the machine shop team to ensure maximum utilization of resources.
  2. Program, set, and operate manual and CNC mills and lathes, and act as a mentor and trainer on their use.
  3. Operate manual lathes and mills, and provide training and support to team members.
  4. Create work packages using our ERP system and monitor progress through the shop.
  5. Conduct daily start-up meetings and allocate tasks to the team to meet business requirements.
  6. Monitor and report on team performance, identifying areas for improvement.
  7. Measure and record relevant metrics to support key performance indicators (KPIs), and use these to inform improvement actions.
  8. Carry out staff appraisals and reviews to ensure team members are motivated and performing to expectations.
  9. Develop and implement training programs to ensure the workforce has the necessary skills and knowledge.
  10. Implement best practices to improve production throughput, capacity, quality, and reliability.
  11. Embed a culture of continuous improvement using lean manufacturing and 5S techniques.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with experience in manufacturing machined components in a small batch or prototype environment. You should have a proven track record of leading a team, demonstrating effective communication skills, and the ability to understand exploded drawings and adhere to written work instructions and route cards.

A good knowledge of modern manufacturing methods and exposure to lean manufacturing techniques is essential. Familiarity with implementing continuous improvement practices is highly desirable.
