Game Design Leadership Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Game Design Director to lead our talented team on an unannounced project. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to help shape the development right from the very start.
Your role is to manage, direct and deliver game design direction for the project. Your focus is to lead a team of Game Designers to deliver high quality levels in line with your direction.
This role is based at our headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives our success. We can provide a relocation package, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full support to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment.
We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration and encourage working from our headquarters. However, we understand that flexibility matters, so we're open to discussing hybrid options based on individual needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of Game Designers with best practice people management techniques.
- Proactively manage your team's performance and professional development through performance review cycles giving constructive, actionable, relevant feedback.
- Be a mediator for your team, proactively identify and resolve conflict swiftly and efficiently, diffusing problems and maintaining positive working relationships within your team.
- Collaborate with Design Directors and the Production team to define and balance creative vision with production realities.
- Communicate and champion the design direction to your team and ensure they remain up to date with evolving briefs.
- Regularly review your team's work against the design brief and provide actionable feedback to make improvements, incorporating appropriate feedback from key stakeholders.
- Verify the quality of design in the game, give feedback to designers and suggest improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints and artistic direction. Ensure correct documentation workflows and process are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Plan and conduct gameplay evaluations with the Design Director, and the team providing feedback and suggestions to help fine tune and improve the game.
Requirements
- Knowledge of 3D software such as Blender, 3D Studio Max or Maya.
- Expert knowledge of creating game design documents, prototype specifications and production pipelines.
- Willingness and ability to deliver high quality results using tools and processes required to get the job done.
- Expert knowledge of the video game development process, including working in a timely / time-bound manner, and prototyping/iterating appropriately within that restriction.
- Proactively ensure the game design serves the audience of the game, is appropriate to the state of the market, and uses the most appropriate business model given the resources available.
- Able to develop resolutions to unusually challenging problems and mentor individuals and teams to solve problems creatively.
- Able to plan and prioritise work, balancing resources, skills, priorities, and timescales to achieve objectives.
- Ability to give and gather information to effectively communicate information and exert influence whilst building long-term, trusting relationships with a wide range of people, and building trust within multiple teams.
