About the Role

Vox Network Consultants is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Building Control Manager to lead the delivery of technical services for the Building Control Authority. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that all building work within the Borough meets the requirements of building control legislation and the building regulations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
    • Provide technical advice through the preparation of reports and briefings on building safety, building regulations, dangerous structures, and land charges regulatory issues.
    • Contribute to Council responses to government consultations and technical reviews in relation to building safety, building regulations, dangerous and temporary structures, and land charges regulatory issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure full cost recovery for the Council in support of the Building Safety Regulator as set out in the Building Safety (Fees and Charges) Regulations.
    • Ensure that 'restricted activities' are only undertaken by the Building Control Authority upon the advice of a registered building inspector with the appropriate class registration for the building type.
  • Inspector Management
    • Ensure that the Council's building inspectors meet the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator in relation to competency assessment, training, and development.
  • Enforcement and Investigation
    • Enforce the building regulations within the Borough using powers under the Building Safety Act 2022 and Building Act 1984 to ensure public safety.
    • Investigate offences under Section 57 of the Building Act 1984, prosecuting cases as required.
    • Investigate unauthorized building work in the Borough, resolving contraventions.
    • Serve Stop and Contravention Notices for breaches of the building regulations, prosecuting cases as required.

Requirements

  • Membership of MRICS, CABE, or similar.
  • Minimum of five years post-qualification experience, preferably in a Building Control environment.
  • Management experience desirable.

Desirable Skills

  • Thorough approach when dealing with detail and actively checks work to ensure accuracy.
  • Flexible approach to technical issues while still meeting legal requirements.
  • Understanding of the commercial environment that the department is working in and the contribution that individuals can make.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems is desirable.
  • Comfortable with using a range of software packages to produce letters, input data, and search for information, etc.
