Job Title: Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Academics Ltd is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in a primary school setting. As a key member of our educational team, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN, adapting teaching methods and resources to meet their unique learning needs and preferences.
  • Assist students as required, while promoting independence and self-esteem.
  • Implement strategies outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to facilitate learning and social interaction.
Learning Environment:
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages engagement and participation from all students.
  • Prepare and organise classroom materials, resources, and learning activities that cater to the diverse needs of students.
Collaboration with Staff and Parents:
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to identify and implement effective support strategies.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings, assessments, and reviews of students with special educational needs, providing insights on their progress and challenges.
Behaviour Management:
  • Use positive behaviour management techniques to help students navigate social situations, develop peer relationships, and enhance their communication skills.
  • Remain calm and supportive in challenging situations while fostering a safe and understanding atmosphere for students.
Monitoring Progress:
  • Observe and assess students' academic, social, and emotional development on an ongoing basis, documenting achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Provide feedback to the class teacher on students' progress and suggest adaptations to instructional and support strategies when necessary.
Liaison with Parents:
  • Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers, communicating effectively about their child's progress and needs.
  • Attend parent-teacher meetings and contribute to discussions regarding students' educational development.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs, particularly autism, is essential.
  • Understanding of the principles of child development and learning processes aligned with primary education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
