Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Specialist Support Assistant to join our team at Bradford Council's Children's Sensory and Physical Needs Service.

About the Role

This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with vision impairment at Hanson Academy, in the Local Authority Resourced provision (LARP). As a Vision Impairment Specialist Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping pupils access learning across their areas of need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support transition and develop skills and experiences needed for adulthood
  • Meet the needs of children and young people with complex requirements, including cognition and learning, social communication, medical and physical needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Develop knowledge about Children and Young People through induction and experience in the role
  • Utilize assistive technology to facilitate learning and independence, including iPads and various apps
  • Administer medication independently after training from health professionals
  • Support personal hygiene needs, engage in Manual Handling training, and respond to medical needs appropriately
  • Support pupils in active lessons, such as dance, drama, and sport, and supervise pupils' use of machinery and devices in creative technologies
  • Maintain pupil health and safety in various contexts

Requirements

  • Demonstrate solution-focused approach to meeting children's needs
  • Experience with Braille is desirable, but training can be accessed as needed

Working with Bradford Council

You will be employed by Bradford Council's Children's Sensory and Physical Needs Service, not the school. Although based at Hanson Academy, you may be required to work in alternative provisions.
