Job Title: Learning Support Assistant - SEN Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity for a psychology graduate to work with neurodiverse children and young people in a specialist secondary school.

The school provides a unique environment that closely fits the needs and challenges of its students, who have a wide range of learning and behavioural needs. The school offers a therapeutic curriculum that includes all the subjects a secondary-aged student should expect, with some students going on to achieve GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the students' journey to access further education or training. The school has a focus on implementing effective communication techniques, with classes ranging from 6-8 in size.

The school has a range of therapists, including SALTs, Occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors, who provide specialist support to the students. The school also uses specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS.

The ideal candidate will have a psychology degree or specialist SEN training, and will be able to work effectively with students who have a range of learning needs. The school prefers LSAs who know their objectives and who would like to continue their journey to become a speech and language therapist.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students with a range of learning needs, including autism, Down's syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social-emotional needs.
  • Implementing effective communication techniques to support student learning.
  • Working with therapists to provide specialist support to students.
  • Assisting with the development of a therapeutic curriculum that meets the needs of students.
  • Supporting students to access further education or training.
