Manchester, United Kingdom RPS Group Full time

Senior Town Planner

RPS is seeking a Senior Town Planner to join our Planning Team in Birmingham or Manchester. This role offers a diverse range of work, providing rich experience in town planning.

As a key member of our Planning Team, you will work alongside multi-disciplinary services to support and deliver planning applications, including residential, mixed-use developments, data centres, airports, retail, logistics, and major infrastructure projects.

This role will give you the opportunity to manage planning casework independently and contribute to defining a career pathway towards promotion.

We're RPS, a company that defines, designs, and manages projects creating shared value in a complex, urbanising, and resource-scarce world. Our people are our success, and we need individuals who share our passion for solving problems that matter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support our strategic planning work, including preparing representations to Local Plan consultations and developing planning strategies to promote land and development for inclusion in Local Plans.
  • Support Planning Directors in delivering their planning caseload, including preparing Planning Statements and representations to Local Plan consultations.
  • Develop your written and oral communication skills.
  • Directly engage in our business development initiatives.
  • Actively support our Planners, Assistant Planners, Graduates, and Apprentices.
  • Contribute to our Prospects Planning Group.

Requirements:

  • A fully qualified RTPI chartered town planner with experience in a planning consultancy or local government role.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • A passion for planning, development, and environmental issues.
  • A good working knowledge of planning policy.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
  • A strategic thinker and someone who can readily problem solve.
  • A market awareness and a good understanding of local planning issues.
  • Experience working in a planning policy role would be an advantage, and/or experience in a city/urban planning environment within the Birmingham or Manchester region.

What's in it for you?

We're an accredited training provider, offering professional qualifications in leadership & management and executive coaching & mentoring. We support learning and development for everyone.

A personal development plan and a transparent career pathway put you in the driving seat of your career, and you'll be supported as far as you want to go.

We encourage and value different ideas, perspectives, and styles of thinking. We need a mix of experiences and skills to develop the most innovative ideas. We respect one another and recognise the potential and contribution of everyone.

We understand the need to work flexibly, with agile offices and hybrid working offered as standard. We're happy to talk about flexible working.

A career here is far from ordinary. Here you're not a number, you're part of the solution.

What happens next?

The Talent Acquisition Team will be in touch to let you know the outcome of your application. If your application is progressed, you'll have a conversation with one of our recruiters prior to an interview with the Team. All applications will be considered.
