About the Role

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London invites applications for a Technical Research Support in Sustainable Energy Materials position to join the sustainable energy materials group led by Professor Titirici.

This role will provide critical support to the group in research activities, particularly in materials synthesis, batteries manufacturing and testing, catalysts for H2 generation and fuel cells, and catalysts for CO2 and N2 reduction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the commissioning, installation, operation, and maintenance of DIGIBAT.
  • Ensure the safety of the DIGIBAT laboratory and activities within.
  • Lead user training - external and internal (students, researchers, industrialists).
  • Collaborate with the DigiFAB project manager, ATLAS management, and DIGIBAT management board to set up and maintain online resources (booking system, website/social media, electronic lab book, laboratory protocols, data management).
  • Assist in reviewing proposals for access to DIGIBAR.
About You
  • Master/PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience working in a chemical research laboratory.
  • Experience operating and maintaining analytical or spectroscopic instruments.
  • Experience in chemical synthesis or materials synthesis and electrochemistry.
  • Experience with at least 3 of the following families of instruments: thermal analysers, spectrophotometers, X-ray diffractometer, NMR, scattering techniques, electrochemical techniques.
  • Experience writing safety operating procedures or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of chemical laboratory safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Knowledge of at least 2 of the following areas: carbon materials, hydrothermal processing, porous materials, electrochemical cells development, material characterisation techniques.

A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field is desired but not essential.
