Aspiring Youth Counsellor - SEMH - Vulnerable Young People

This is a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role working with vulnerable children and young people in a specialist provision. The school provides a holistic and restorative approach to learning and behaviour management. The students at the school have varying degrees of social, emotional, mental health needs (SEMH).

The students at the school have been through a range of traumas and will generally struggle to build long-term relationships with their peers. They commonly have high levels of anxiety and can demonstrate challenging, and at times, volatile behaviour. This is where your empathy and understanding come into play.

This is a challenging environment to work in, so you must have the right objectives and motivations to apply. If you're passionate about supporting vulnerable young people with their mental health to help them achieve their potential, then this role is ideal for you.

This role is perfect for those who have aspirations within Youth Work, Probation, and Rehabilitation. You will work with a range of learning needs and abilities, some of the students will have a 6-10% attendance record over the course of the academic year.

The school uses holistic, therapeutic, and restorative processes, de-escalation techniques are key. You will focus on dealing with trauma and positive reinforcement to build confidence and self-esteem.

The students will either live at home with parents/guardians or be in residential/foster care settings. You will focus on GSCE subjects, AQA, building a curriculum that works for their individual needs.

The school provides Specialist Team Teach and safeguarding training. They like to focus on LSAs who know their objectives and who would like to continue their personal education within an SEMH school.
