Job Title: Digital Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Software Engineer to join our team at McNeil & Co. as a key member of our software development team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions that enable business operations to realize company goals and objectives. This will involve performing analysis, design, coding, debugging, testing, and support of software applications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work in an Agile software development team to deliver new software and to maintain and support past and future solutions.
  2. Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with the Agile Program Manager (APM), Digital Product Manager (DPM), Business Systems Analyst (BSA), Quality Assurance Analyst (QA) and other Developers to clarify and refine requirements/user stories.
  3. Translate user stories into engineering artefacts and complete software development work, which includes application design, coding, code review and testing.
  4. Keep team and APM apprised of progress.
  5. Work with software development peers to ensure that the engineering realization is in accordance with Enterprise Architecture principles and software development best practices.
  6. Work on performance tuning, code optimisation, refactoring, automation and CI/CD implementation.
  7. Manage engineering risks by proactively tracking and communicating issues, and devising methods to mitigate them.
  8. Liaise with other teams to coordinate interdependencies and resolve issues.
  9. Support the resolution of in-depth user questions and production issues following support process and SLA's.
  10. Maintain a working knowledge of new technology and software engineering standards, practices and tools.

Requirements and Skills

  1. Broad expertise in theoretical and practical application of software engineering best practices, methods and techniques.
  2. Experience with Agile software development frameworks and processes.
  3. T-shaped skill set. In depth knowledge and experience in developing software applications on a specific software platform or technology and broad knowledge of related technologies.
  4. Proficient in.Net, C#, HTML5, CSS, XML, Windows and IIS.
  5. Experience in API development and microservices architecture.
  6. Understanding of source code change management primarily using GitHub.
  7. Understanding of continuous delivery, integration, deployment and tools like GitHub Actions and Harness.
  8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to discuss, articulate and simplify technology to non-technical people.
  9. Advanced analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  10. Strong customer service skills and ability to provide end user/business support when needed.
  11. Knowledge of production support processes such as incident and problem management techniques.

Qualifications

  1. Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  1. Prior experience in a regulated financial services environment is desirable (specifically in insurance and London Market).
