About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Communication Support Worker to join our team at The Sheffield College. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our students, particularly those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communication Support
    • Provide communication support to students in the classroom and online, using sign language, lip reading, and note-taking skills as required.
    • Work closely with lecturers and other staff to ensure that students receive the support they need to access the curriculum.
  • Support for Students
    • Develop strong relationships with students to understand their individual needs and goals.
    • Work collaboratively with students, staff, and other stakeholders to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Record-Keeping and Reporting
    • Accurately record student progress and achievements.
    • Prepare regular reports on student progress for lecturers and other staff members.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working as a Communication Support Worker in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) and/or other sign languages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification in Notetaking or equivalent experience.
