We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Governance and Compliance Officer to join our team at Clear Legal and Financial Recruitment.

Job Overview

This is a unique opportunity to work with a leading recruitment agency in the UK, specializing in legal and financial placements. Our client is one of the largest charities in the country, operating across various sectors including Health & Social Care. As the Company Secretary/Head of Legal, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the organization's compliance with statutory, regulatory, and charity commission requirements.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in governance, compliance, and risk management within a similar industry setting. They should possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and have a solid understanding of legislation, governance requirements, and best practices.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Governance and Compliance: Ensure that the charity complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and charity commission requirements, maintaining a robust governance and compliance structure.
  2. Risk Management: Coordinate and manage the approach to risk, ensuring that the organization's legal, commercial, and reputational interests are adequately protected.
  3. Legal Services: Provide sound and pragmatic legal advice to the executive team and trustee board in a cost-effective manner, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements as necessary.
  4. Data Protection: Ensure that obligations under UK data protection legislation and GDPR are met, protecting the organization's sensitive information.
  5. Team Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing legal services and corporate governance team, providing compliance, data management, company secretarial, information governance, data protection, and health and safety services.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated career record of being accountable for regulatory, governance, and legal activities and reporting associated with the role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - able to develop strong relationships and work well with internal and external clients, colleagues, board members, and service providers.
  • Solid understanding and experience of legislation, governance requirements, and best practice ideally within a Health & Social Care setting.
