Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Candidate Researcher in Modelling Healthcare Infection Risks

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic doctoral researcher to join our team at the School of Civil Engineering, focusing on modelling the dispersion of microorganisms due to healthcare activities.

The successful candidate will be part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) doctoral network, . The HumanIC network will bring together leading academic teams from across Europe with hospital and healthcare HVAC industry partners to train early-stage engineers and scientists to enable a new approach to the human-centric indoor climate in Healthcare Environments.

You will play an instrumental role in developing new computational models to describe the dispersion of airborne microorganisms from healthcare activities and validating the model using chamber and/or real-world data. You will use the models developed to gain an understanding of the air and surface exposure risk resulting from different transient releases, and the potential mitigating measures.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vital research project and make a significant impact on healthcare safety standards. You will also have the opportunity for secondments with industrial and academic partners across Europe.

Compensation: A competitive salary is offered, commensurate with experience, approximately £25,000 - £30,000 per annum.

About the Role: As a Researcher in Infection Modelling, you will work closely with our team to develop and implement innovative solutions to improve engineering control for healthcare-acquired infections. You will apply your expertise in fluid dynamics to create computational models that predict the spread of microorganisms in healthcare environments.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this position, applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree and must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the three years prior to their recruitment under the HumanIC project.
