Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead strategic planning initiatives and drive sustainable growth in Swindon. As the Policy Research Manager, you will be responsible for providing senior-level planning expertise to deliver high-quality development and support economic growth in the region.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional with a proven track record in developing and implementing progressive planning policy. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of UK planning legislation, policy, and guidance, with the ability to apply this practically to deliver tangible planning gains.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and review of key elements of Development Plans, including the development of planning policy and the management and delivery of key projects at a senior level.
  • Develop and implement innovative planning solutions to achieve successful outcomes within a Local Authority environment or private planning practice.
  • Manage and deliver complex projects, including partnership working and developing synergies within the organisation.
  • Support decision makers, including Councillors and statutory consultees and strategic partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
Requirements
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant field, such as Town Planning, with recent experience addressing the requirements of the role.
  • Membership (or eligibility for membership) of the RTPI.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to recognise the impacts of your work in unlocking and supporting development and the needs of development partners.
