Role Overview

As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor at Farrans, you will collaborate with senior experts to optimise project costs and risks. Your duties will include ensuring the development and delivery of the project runs in conjunction with business expectations, analysing subcontract quotations, and reviewing conditions and/or qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the development and delivery of the project runs in conjunction with business expectations, programme and budget.
  2. Analyse subcontract quotations.
  3. Review conditions and/or qualifications assist with drafting and negotiating contract types prior to submission of a tender.
  4. Ensure the preparation of interim applications, including works executed, materials on site and works by subcontractors is submitted to the Client's team by agreed deadline.
  5. Evaluate, measure and recover contract variations.
  6. Gather records to confirm additional payments where required and defend claims received from subcontractors.
  7. Review, assess and reduce commercial and contractual risks.
  8. Assist with the procurement of subcontractors.
  9. Responsible for effective dispute resolution.
  10. Generate payments and distribute notices to suppliers and subcontractors, including the measurement of works and differences executed to evaluate final costs and accounts.
  11. Contribute to the submission of weekly financial forecasting including the assembling of contract costs.
  12. Preparation of estimates and costs of the work and when the project is in progress.
  13. Keeping records of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability.

Requirements

  • Hold a Civil Engineering Degree with a 2:2 or higher.
  • Hold a full UK manual driving license.
  • Passionate about starting a career in the civils industry.
  • High attention to detail coupled with meticulous planning and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in all aspects of engineering and looking for a dynamic workplace that provides an outstanding career opportunity.
  • Excellent good communication skills, be able to work flexibly in a team and be a hard worker.
