ROLE SUMMARY

Boston Consulting Group is seeking a highly skilled Global Real Estate ESG Director to join our team. As a key member of our Global Real Estate function, you will be responsible for developing and implementing ESG strategies across our real estate portfolio. Your primary objective will be to align our real estate strategy, project delivery, and operations with ESG principles and ensure compliance with BCG's net zero ambition, relevant regulations, and industry best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define ESG business and real estate priorities, desired business outputs, and potential associated funding requirements with BCG leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Build and manage regular ESG real estate advisory boards with BCG senior stakeholders for evolving business priorities, governance, and decision-making.
  • Collate and validate current ESG GRE best practices and standards.
  • Evolving our GRE ambition and framework of a holistic ESG strategy, in close collaboration with our in-house Sustainability team and other BCG experts.
  • Assess the environmental performance of our real estate portfolio, including energy efficiency, water management, waste reduction, and renewable energy initiatives.
  • Work with office green teams to build a view on current status quo and best practices as it relates to green office operations and the roll-out of future initiatives.
  • Identify and implement social impact initiatives that promote inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement within our real estate projects and day-to-day office experiences.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor and measure the effectiveness of GRE ESG initiatives, preparing regular reports for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Prioritize within all areas of our ESG framework and develop and implement an execution plan for areas with the highest urgency, risks, and impact.
  • Conduct ESG risk assessments and due diligence on potential real estate acquisitions, evaluating environmental and social factors to inform real estate decisions.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including investors, industry associations, and sustainability organizations, to share best practices.
  • Drive employee education and awareness programs related to ESG principles in our workplaces, fostering a culture of sustainability and responsibility throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with the BCG Sustainability team, marketing, and communications teams to effectively communicate our ESG efforts to internal and external stakeholders, enhancing our reputation as a sustainability leader.

A successful candidate will be able to consult offices, structure new demand, and strategic ESG initiatives, communicate approach, and navigate cultural nuances, as well as integrate seamlessly with a global BCG team. Specifically, you:

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, sustainability, business, or real estate consulting. A master's degree and/or professional certifications are preferred. Proven experience (8+ years) in a role within the real estate industry. Understanding of ESG principles, frameworks, and best practices, with a specific focus on the real estate sector. In-depth familiarity with relevant ESG rating systems and certifications (e.g., GRESB, LEED, BREEAM) is highly desirable. Solid knowledge of real estate operations and delivery. Understanding of the financial implications of ESG initiatives and their integration into real estate decision-making processes. Strong analytical and data-driven mindset, capable of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting ESG data to drive informed decision-making. Proficiency in using sustainability reporting tools and software is advantageous. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, present complex information in a clear manner, and build strong partnerships across teams and organizations. Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and deliver results within established timelines. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Passion for Sustainability: Demonstrated passion for environmental and social sustainability, with a genuine commitment to making a positive impact in the real estate industry.

TEAM INFORMATION
The successful candidate will report to the Global Real Estate Executive Director based in Munich. You will then be part of an industry-leading global team of real estate specialists, our teamwork is characterized by mutual support, strong trust, and a good dose of humor. Integrity is our highest priority. Your line manager, peers, and the entire team will assist you in familiarizing yourself with the company and developing professionally. And you will always be able to draw upon the experience of your other coworkers. Through the team's various interfaces, you'll gain interesting insights into all areas of the Group (Consulting Team, Sustainability Team, C&S Practice, BCG subsidiaries, and the Business Services Team including IT, Procurement, Finance, Risk, HR, etc.).
