Job Overview

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children aged 5 years and above who have language difficulties as their primary need.

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for delivering a speech and language therapy service for children and young people with language disorder within the Doncaster community. You will provide independent assessment and treatment of children as well as developing and implementing specialist programmes of care and treatment for individual patients with communication difficulties.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of therapeutic care for patients within their care / speciality
  • Manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.
  • Work with other members of the team in the development of the service.
  • Ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
  • Represent the Therapy Team and contribute to the development of the wider Therapy service within Clinical Therapies.

About Us

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a team of 28 therapists and therapy assistants working across multiple clinical pathways but all delivering the very highest levels of care to our paediatric caseloads.

Team leads are in place to offer operational support along with clinical specialists available to provide clinical support. Clinical supervision is available for all staff.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Good organisational skills.
  • Prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills.
  • Negotiation and problems solving skills
  • Can demonstrate good analytical and reflection skills.
  • Well-developed concentration skills
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Adaptable to change
  • Professional specific degree i.e. BSC speech sciences or Masters in medical sciences.
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Completion of the RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Goals
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a range of assessment tools and appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Relevant undergraduate experience of working with children with language difficulties and/or DLD
