Job Summary
The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Research Director to lead the development and coordination of the Trust's Research Strategy. The successful candidate will be accountable for the clinical leadership in relation to research and innovation, ensuring that the Trust's approach enables it to be positioned advantageously in relation to NHS priorities.
The post holder will lead the Management Team to provide Trust-wide clinical leadership for research, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness, participation, and multi-professional engagement with high-quality clinical research across the organisation.
Main Duties of the Job
The Clinical Research Director will be responsible for:
- Developing and coordinating the Trust's Research Strategy, ensuring that it aligns with NHS priorities and secures sufficient funding to support research at required levels.
- Ensuring research governance and protection of patients, promoting research and consistency with national governance expectations.
- Delivering the bench-to-bedside concept, enabling rapid translation of leading-edge research into quality patient outcomes.
About the Role
The Clinical Research Director will be a key member of the Trust's senior leadership team, working closely with clinicians, researchers, and other stakeholders to drive the Trust's research agenda forward.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of undertaking and securing funding for clinical research, with experience of clinical leadership and a credible understanding of governance and funding of NHS R&D locally, regionally, and nationally.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
- MBBS or equivalent qualification.
- Full GMC registration.
- Consultant or SAS post for 5 years.
- Credible track record of undertaking and securing funding for clinical research.
- Experience of clinical leadership, including lead clinician roles.
- Up-to-date Good Clinical Research Practice (GCRP) accreditation.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to direct and motivate team members.
