About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled VAT associate to join our EMEA VAT team at Goldman Sachs. As a VAT associate, you will play a critical role in providing advisory support to our various business lines, including commodities, real estate investing, asset management, and private wealth management.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Advisory Support: Provide expert advice to our business lines on VAT matters, including commodities, real estate investing, asset management, and private wealth management.
  2. VAT Compliance: Support the oversight and review of group-wide VAT compliance across EMEA, where returns are prepared by an outsourced provider.
  3. Process Integration: Support the integration of VAT compliance processes of acquired asset management businesses and manage VAT compliance obligations for EMEA commodities businesses.
  4. Tax Technology: Work with the outsourced provider and internal tax technology team to implement tax technology solutions and process improvements.
  5. Risk Management: Maintain the VAT control framework to manage risks and support the management of relationships with HMRC.
  6. Financial Systems: Liaise with Corporate Workplace Solutions and Controllers to ensure VAT is coded correctly in payment systems, upstream applications, and the general ledger.
  7. Balance Sheet Substantiation: Assist the outsourced service provider to perform Balance Sheet Substantiation processes, which involves reconciliation of accounting records to VAT returns.
  8. Ad-hoc Support: Provide ad-hoc business support in product and operational taxation matters.
Requirements
  1. Experience: In-house or practice experience with a complex financial services group.
  2. Qualifications: Ideally CTA qualified, indirect tax route.
  3. Skills: Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects, is organized, possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and able to deliver on tight deadlines.
