Job Title: Head of the Natural History Library Collections

Job Summary:

We are seeking an innovative and experienced librarian to lead the development of our natural history library collections and services. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in natural history librarianship and a vision for the next phase of services and spaces supporting the natural history domain and across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the natural history library collections in collaboration with faculty, curators, and researchers.
  • Oversee the management of the Ernst Mayr Library and the Botany Libraries, ensuring the selection and maintenance of well-balanced collections to support teaching and research programs at Harvard.
  • Collaborate with the directors of the Museum of Comparative Zoology and the Harvard University Herbaria on the use of library spaces, coordination with museum collections, and future planning.
  • Manage the library facilities in collaboration with MCZ and HUH building operations.
  • Lead multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budget targets.
  • Work collegially with peers and colleagues across the Harvard Library in various committees and working groups.
  • Maintain awareness of national trends and developments in STEM librarianship with a focus on natural history and museum libraries.

Requirements:

  • ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent experience in academic library administration.
  • Master's degree in a related field or other background in natural history subjects.
  • 4-6 years of related management experience in a research library.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with museum library work.
  • Proven leadership, management, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in science research and learning that affect library service.
  • Experience with the Ex Libris/Alma library management system.
