About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEN Support Specialist to join our team at Harris Primary Academy East Dulwich. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of our students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Main Responsibilities
  • Supporting Student Learning
    • Supervise and support students with SEND in 1:1, group, or whole-class situations, ensuring their safety and access to learning.
    • Assist in the development of appropriate resources, schemes of work, and teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with SEND.
    • Evaluate the progress of students with SEND and provide regular feedback to teachers on their achievement, progress, and needs.
  • Leading Small Group Sessions
    • Lead small group sessions and interventions to support students with SEND in their learning.
  • Personal Support
    • Attend to the personal needs of students with SEND, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare matters.
  • Behaviour Management
    • Support with behaviour management and contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Record Keeping
    • Undertake record keeping and maintain accurate records of student progress and support.
  • Communication
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and support for students with SEND.
Requirements
  • Qualifications and Experience
    • Qualifications to degree level or equivalent.
    • Basic knowledge of SEND and learning barriers.
    • Experience of working directly with young people in an education or training environment, supporting the learning of students with SEND.
    • Experience of establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders, at all levels.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Awareness of Health and Safety issues in the workplace.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
