Accounting Leadership Role in East Cambridgeshire

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Accountant to join our team at East Cambridgeshire District Council. As the principal financial advisor, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support to the council to ensure efficient and effective financial management.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial accounting or audit, with experience of year-end accounting and managing the audit process. You will also have leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team of 3 people including a Management Accountant and Payroll Officer.
In this role, you will play a key part in the production of annual budgets, reviewing performance against these, and communicating with budget holders to improve performance. You will also be instrumental in the year-end process, working closely with the Director of Finance and other members of the team.
As a leader in our finance team, you will be responsible for mentoring an accountancy apprentice and contributing to their development. You will also be the key point of contact for auditors during the annual audit process.
We offer a competitive salary of up to £48,710, dependant on qualification and experience, as well as a Local Government Pension Scheme with a generous employer contribution. Our hybrid working model provides flexibility, allowing you to work from home for 2 days each week. We also offer an Occupational Health programme and a Childcare Scheme.
