About the Role

British Gas is seeking a highly skilled Technical Safety Lead to ensure our engineering standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions meet mandatory regulatory requirements. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining compliance with regulations, standards, and codes of practice.

Your Responsibilities
  • Develop and update British Gas Technical Operational Procedures to ensure clarity, conciseness, and industry standard compliance.
  • Provide technical safety standards support and advice to the business and key stakeholders.
  • Offer engineering leadership in the business and industry to support Centrica's net zero objectives.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for regulatory bodies, protecting Centrica's brand reputation through correct technical advice and strong relationships.
  • Deliver technical updates and communications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage project delivery against plans, liaising with stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Support the development of Technical Safety Assurance and corrective action processes and procedures.
Requirements
  • Hold an in-depth understanding of mechanical design, installation, and maintenance practices across domestic applications, including knowledge of energy sources, products, metering, and network systems.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of the Gas Safety Management Regulations, Gas Safety Installation and use Regulations, and other regulatory requirements relevant to business operations.
  • Have a sound understanding of Building Regulations for England, Wales, and Scotland.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to technical detail and the ability to produce technical reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Show the ability to handle multiple projects and tasks, prioritizing and working under pressure to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Hold (as a minimum) an NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in gas/mechanical installation and maintenance, along with a full driving license.
  • Possess professional registration with IGEM at EngTech level or higher.
  • Bring extensive practical experience in the energy industry's mechanical engineering sector.
  • Hold expert knowledge of industry practices, implementation, and competence management.
  • Investigate significant incidents and identify root causes.
  • Display a track record of delivering continuous improvements in technical safety culture and HSE performance.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, influencing, and relationship management skills.
Estimated Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum
