About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Social Worker to join our Adoption Team at Tameside Council. As an Adoption Specialist, you will play a crucial role in achieving the best possible outcomes for looked-after children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with care planning social workers to advise and support on decision-making around plans of adoption.
  • Conduct family finding for children, identifying matches with adoptive families who can meet their needs.
  • Place children in pre-adoptive placements and ensure support is in place to secure legal permanence through adoption.
  • Manage caseloads to facilitate quality direct work with children, preparing them for their plan of adoption and supporting continued life story work with children and families.
  • Support birth family members and provide reports and assessments as required.
Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.
  • Post-qualifying experience in a statutory child care setting, ideally including work in an adoption service.
  • Strong commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for looked-after children.
  • Excellent report writing and assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and minimum standards.
