About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Pharmacist Specialist to join our large and friendly pharmacy team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

The successful post holder will be part of our highly valued and skilled Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care team, providing a clinical pharmacy service to patients in the Trust following the departmental and Trust policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Check prescriptions for clarity, safety and efficacy on wards, in dispensaries and the aseptic suite, and provide accurate drug histories to facilitate this.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service to patients in the Trust, working to a framework of medicines management and clinical governance, including the RPS hospital pharmacy standards.
  • Provide information to nursing and medical staff on allocated wards on any aspect of medicines policy, ensuring safe practice, and provide information to patients on allocated wards or in dispensaries concerning their medication.
  • Work with the Senior Pharmacist(s) for the clinical areas to ensure effective medicines optimisation and management, including audit work, attending meetings, education and training of ward staff, and leadership and management of floor-based teams.
  • Develop policies, guidelines, audits, reports and research relating to the use of medicines within their area(s), and ensure best practice and clinical governance is applied to drug therapy.
  • Participate in clinical audit and practice research, and undertake procedures for the introduction and monitoring of new drugs, monitoring of drug expenditure, and provision of advice on the financial implications of changes in practice.
  • Train and act as a role model to pharmacy staff allocated to specialty, and liaise with community medical nursing and pharmacy staff to ensure effective and seamless care.
  • Lead on Medicines Management and Medicines Optimisation Issues, and provide clinical pharmacy and prescribing services within designated areas, if needed.
  • Work flexibly across all of the Pharmacy departments, covering the work of colleagues during peak periods or absence, and participate in weekend and Bank Holiday working as may be required.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Director of Pharmacy UHCW in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy (Hospital) or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team, and contribute to the process of service development and innovation.
  • Strong links with the Medical School at Warwick University and the department of Medicines Management at Keele University.
