Job Summary

The Contract Manager is responsible for the operational management and delivery of mental health services within the Yorkshire Prison estate. The role requires effective recruitment, management, and development of staff in partnership with Tees, Esk, and Wear Valley NHS Trust. The postholder will oversee contract performance, ensuring objectives are met, and lead service development initiatives. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is key to delivering high-quality services and maintaining positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Yorkshire Prisons team, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Monitor and manage performance against contract targets, ensuring positive outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Locality Lead and Head of Prisons and Criminal Justice to meet service objectives.
  • Lead and motivate the team, fostering a culture of openness, transparency, and rapid response to issues.
  • Ensure a consistent approach to service provision, resource allocation, and risk management across the contract.
  • Identify potential problems, propose solutions, and ensure the service is structured for flexibility and continuity.
  • Ensure recruitment, training, and development of staff, providing constructive feedback and ensuring opportunities for professional growth.
  • Manage service budgets, developing and implementing financial controls in partnership with the management team.
  • Implement and review operational procedures, conduct case file audits, and monitor action plans.
  • Build internal and external partnerships to support service innovation and volunteering development.
  • Manage referral processes, monitor changing risks, and ensure incidents and complaints are addressed.
  • Represent the organisation at external meetings and maintain effective communication with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in leadership and management within the criminal justice or mental health sectors.
  • Strong understanding of current mental health practices and frameworks.
  • Ability to adapt leadership style to achieve objectives and foster a high-performing team.
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Skilled in managing stressful situations with a calm and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Experience in HR principles, including recruitment, staff development, and performance management.
  • IT proficient, able to use Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car for regular travel across Yorkshire, with occasional national travel.

Desirable

  • Experience in service improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of theories of service user empowerment and co-production.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and evaluating service performance.
