About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cable Systems Design Engineer to join our team at Turner Lovell. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative cable systems for high voltage projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Develop comprehensive cable system designs and specifications for high voltage projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze and interpret client requirements to ensure a thorough understanding of project needs.
  • Technical Expertise: Utilize advanced calculations to determine cable conductor sizing and selection, considering various environmental conditions for underground and submarine installations.
  • Project Execution: Develop and implement cable system designs for direct buried, ducted, and cable tunnels, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and forced ventilation systems.
  • System Integrity: Perform complex calculations to ensure system integrity and longevity, including thermo-mechanical and short-circuit forces along entire cable routes.
  • Documentation and Planning: Create comprehensive sheath bonding line diagrams and earthing systems, as well as develop thorough Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for HV AC/DC cable systems.
Requirements
  • Education: Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Power Systems, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Proven experience in high voltage cable engineering, particularly in the 132kV to 525kV range.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical background in cable design specifications, knowledge of HV AC/DC underground cable manufacturing and testing, and proficiency with design tools/software including CYMCAP, Finite Element Analysis, AutoCAD 2D, and Revit.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
