Job Title: Electrical Mechanical Shift Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Mechanical Shift Technician to join our team at Sodexo Group. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of all plant and building services within the Golden Jubilee Wing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake the operation and maintenance of all plant and building services installed within the Golden Jubilee Wing, in accordance with PPM schedules and task sheets.
  • Attend to all calls and reactive requests for assistance in a timely and efficient manner, to protect the Client's assets.
  • Maintain full and accurate reporting of all tasks attended, including time, additional work required, details of materials used, and specialist attendance required.
  • Monitor and control site conditions using the BMS, and liaise with specialist sub-contractors and other visiting disciplines to ensure efficient operation of the building and plant.
  • Comply with the Company's Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Procedures, and ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with Industry best practices and statute.
  • Assist Management with the operation and implementation of Permit to Work systems, and report any instances of non-conformance with these Safe Systems of work.
  • Ensure all areas where work is undertaken are kept clean and tidy, and all waste is removed and segregated for disposal in accordance with standing environmental procedures.
  • Provide a timely and efficient reactive response to emergency situations, accurately diagnose faults, and carry out remedial action to ensure optimum availability of plant and services.
  • Be proactive and anticipate potential faults or problems, and report to the Estates Supervisor for corrective action where necessary.
  • Understand the overall operation and strategy of the building services, including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and Building Control systems within the Golden Jubilee Wing, and carry out system checks and record plant status and issues arising by means of the Shift Log.
  • Be fully proficient in carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance, including testing and diagnosis of all plant and Building Services as necessary.
  • Undertake the duties of lower grade staff on an ad hoc basis as required, and instruct others on all aspects of the role as necessary.
  • Maintain current trade knowledge in accordance with published Codes of Practice and guidance, and embrace any training provided by the company to enhance professional skills, innovation, and safety procedures.
  • Participate in a 12-hour rotating shift pattern, including working public holidays as rostered, and covering holidays/sickness of other shifts in liaison with the Estates Supervisor, and be available for out-of-normal-working-hours attendance as directed by the Contract Manager.
  • Participate in employee engagement activities, appraisals, and performance reviews, including the identification of training and development needs within specified company timeframes.
  • Work closely with Shift partners and support staff.
Requirements:
  • Completed a recognised Apprenticeship or similar scheme, and be qualified to ONC or equivalent in a relevant Building Services/Engineering discipline.
  • Completed or currently participating in CPD courses or Authorised Person training.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency and Environmental procedures, including segregation of waste and recycling.
  • IT literate.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Collect data and information necessary to assist in the analysis of Plant and Building Services performance and utilisation.
  • Make sound judgements across a wide range of issues, taking into account legislation, H&S, conflicting demands, and escalating any issues arising to the Estates Supervisor or Estates Manager.
Physical Demands:
  • Use of Plant, Tools, and equipment. Some moderate lifting and handling in accordance with Manual Handling assessment. The post holder will be required to regularly work in plant areas, therefore should be fit, able to climb ladders, and access confined spaces (where PTW allows).
Emotional Effort:
  • Exposed occasionally to complaints from staff, patients, and the public regarding environmental conditions or plant fault. Any complaints to be forwarded to the Estates Manager.

  • Cooperate with Sodexo and Trust in ensuring that statutory regulations, codes of practice, local policies, and department health and safety rules are adhered to.
