Job Title: Academic Lead for Literacy Development in Alternative Education


About the Role:


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced teacher to lead our literacy development initiatives within the Pupil Referral Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and developing literacy across the curriculum, working closely with colleagues to enhance the learning experience of students.


About You:


To succeed in this role, you will possess a strong commitment to enhancing well-being and life chances for all students. You should have effective strategies for supporting students with emotional, behavioural, and social needs, as well as experience in teaching curriculum subjects at Key Stage 4 to accreditation level.


Key Responsibilities:


As the Academic Lead for Literacy Development, you will:



  • Coordinate and develop literacy across the curriculum, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to literacy education.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to implement effective strategies for supporting students with additional needs.
  • Teach a variety of subject areas within the PRU and Outreach service, participating in the development of schemes of work, materials, and syllabuses where appropriate.
  • Develop positive working relationships with parents/carers, schools, and supporting agencies/services, adhering to clear PRU protocols.
  • Fulfill all requirements and duties as set out in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.

Salary: £32,000 - £49,000 per annum, depending on experience.
