Job Title: Asap Consultant

This is a replacement consultant post, and forms part of our Infection Sciences Department. The post-holder will be based and work at the Denmark Hill site, and will support and develop our Infection service at DHS. This service consists of Microbiology, Virology, Infection Prevention and Control and the evolving Infectious Diseases (ID) and OPAT services.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver Infection services for in/out-patients and the local CCG as part of the microbiology consultant team.
  2. Play an active role in the general workload of the department, including overseeing the junior doctors.
  3. Join the microbiology "duty day" rota, providing senior supervision and support to trainees, fellows and the laboratory in managing significant microbiology results, complex clinical queries (by telephone and EPIC referral system), and authorisation of results.
  4. Provide support for the interpretation and authorisation of serology results, working in conjunction with other consultants and clinical scientists.
  5. Provide regular microbiology support to the adult Critical Care Units as part of a team of Infection Consultants.
  6. Join a team of other consultants with dedicated PAs to cover infection control and provide support to the Director of Infection Prevention and Control and the IPC nursing team.
Requirements:
  1. Ensure full compliance with clinical governance and clinical effectiveness requirements of the Trust.
  2. Contribute to the Audit Programme, participating in clinical audit and quality control within the laboratory.
  3. Ensure adherence to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and conformity to the requirements of the Caldicott Guardian for King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
  4. Liaise closely with UKHSA's Health Protection Units and Regional Epidemiologist and report promptly any information that may be of local or wider public health importance.
  5. Collaborate with reference and epidemiological facilities in the reporting and investigation of infections, control of outbreaks, assessment of vaccines, development of laboratory methods, involvement in surveys etc.
  6. Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
  7. Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training/updates in infection prevention and control.
