About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate SEND Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a specialist school in Sunderland. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people or children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The school caters for students aged 11-19 with autism and complex learning difficulties, providing tailored support to ensure inclusivity and an inspiring curriculum. Our latest Ofsted rating was 'Good', and we continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.

This is a long-term position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am until 4:30pm. You will be responsible for supporting students in accessing the curriculum effectively, assisting with classroom activities, and promoting their well-being.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An enhanced DBS check or be willing to obtain one
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with complex needs
  • Some related experience working alongside young people with autism or similar
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and ensuring the welfare of children
  • A compassionate personality and values honesty, inclusivity, and respect
  • A good knowledge of EHCPs

We offer a competitive salary of £25,000 per annum (£12.06 per hour), as well as a refer-a-friend or colleague bonus scheme, free CPD, and dedicated consultant support.
