Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide actuarial input and support the delivery of the DB Business Plan. This involves undertaking pricing and actuarial tasks to ensure accurate and timely delivery of new business quotations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the DB Pricing Actuary to deliver new business quotations.
  2. Develop and run pricing models to calculate premiums, including data manipulation, assumption setting, and calculation of pricing metrics.
  3. Review and provide feedback on internal sign-off documentation to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  4. Check and approve initial drafts of quotation documents for external issuance.
  5. Work with the DB Actuarial Analyst and DB Pricing Actuary to transition schemes to outsourcers and produce final deliverables.
  6. Drive projects forward to ensure timely completion and progress.
  7. Develop expertise in DB pricing systems and tools.
  8. Provide support in ad hoc tasks such as data analysis, proposition development, systems testing, and process improvement.
  9. Assist in the development of junior team members.
  10. Contribute to a culture of collaboration and engagement within the DB Pricing team.
Requirements

Working towards FIA qualification is desirable, but we also consider candidates who have ceased working towards an actuarial qualification.

Key skills and knowledge include:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly Excel.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Sound knowledge of technical actuarial concepts, particularly bulk annuity pricing.
  • Good knowledge and awareness of the DB buy-in/buy-out market, life insurance, and relevant regulation.
Experience

Good experience working within a pensions or investment consultancy, life insurer, or reinsurer is essential. Coding experience is desirable, particularly in Julia, Python, and/or VBA.
